STORY BEHIND THE PIECE
This collage is an abstract notion conveying the (hidden) power of the modern Egyptian persona, as a continuation of its ancestors, represented by a lion. Ancient Egyptians venerated the lion in many shapes and forms: Sekhmet (goddess of war), Bastet (gentler aspect of Sekhmet), Maahes (god of war and protection, son of Bastet).
The lion face is made of many pieces, each of them being a fragment from a major work of modern Egyptian art and representing an aspect of a rich and diverse personality (e.g., motherhood, love, art, community, etc). In his silent serenity, this lion wants to send a reminder that our richness, magnificence and wisdom is in our diversity as individuals and people.
